Re: Chak are you covering this?
It's by far the hardest thing I've had to cover. Most everyone in the community is one or two degrees removed from someone who was killed. The county has had a rough go of it all summer, this is like the third candlelight vigil I've attended in 8 months. A lot of young deaths, too, kids drowning and getting in car accidents.
Plus, watching local firefighters and cops get interviewed by people national media, who can barely pronounce their names, has been surreal. Including me, we have 3 reporters and none of us really slept between Thursday and Sunday.

Another crazy thing is watching all the national media up and leave so quickly. They're like a storm. There were guys from the Washington Post (Portland bureau) within hours, and stringers from The Guardian and The Daily Beast, then your NYT and WSJ reporters. I got phone calls from Rachel Maddow's producers, some talk show on Sirius and all these random media outlets in Canada, Ireland, Denmark. It was all over CNN and then it's gone.

Well I have to say I was on your website a lot last week, have/are they going to let you write an editorial about it?
When National/International media come calling what do they ask local journalists?
What happens now that the media storm is largely over until Obama visits?

Yeah two or three cycles later and everybody's done with it. It's sort of crazy, especially for a small town, to be thrust into the public eye because of a tragedy and then watch the media just be done with it seemingly overnight.
