but I can't help but feel like you were too jaded going into the game to get anything out of it. Which is fair enough in many ways, because the devs were pretty retarded (following the game was a mistaaaake). Anyway....

This is probs true. All I can say is that STO felt like a flawed game that was going to get better (and did). SWTOR felt like a game that was going to get worse. And again, it helped that STO was such a stronger RP/social experience. SWTOR felt like a 6/10 bioware game that forced me to suffer through grind between getting on with the story.

I want to get excited about this game but I'm pretty skeptical about procedurally generated stuff.

Yeah No Man Sky could go either way. If it has great multiplayer I think it could be the game I wish and pretended Dayz was...an open, multiplayer sandbox where you're always creating your own story. Like, Dayz isn't a good game, but a lot of my best video game stories come from it--just crazy shit happening that can only happen when users are given control of the game world--running into people; stumbling upon people's hidden camps in the woods and stealing their supplies; getting into gun fights with other groups; getting completely lost. I know Star Wars Galaxies was a bit like that, or Eve online.. not great games, probably, but people who got into them have great stories and think about them sentimentally.

If No Man's Sky is actually good game... it's going to be great. Just please don't end up like Spore.
