Re: Dargon Age 3
Two mo videos.
First is character creation. Special guest appearance by Thaed designing one of the last characters.
Second is crafting stuff.
Choosing Warrior: Two-handed or whatever allocates your first few points and gives you the proper starting equipment but they said you can respec all that in-game.
Massive points for mage turning into smoke. Whatever spec allows me to fulfill my dream of being the smoke monster from LOST just moved up the rankings.
Glad there's color wheel stuff.
Qunari heads are weird. Horns / hair being linked not ideal BUT WHATEVER DO I KNOW. Glad no horn options are available.

Character customization looks great, way higher than my expectations. Best Japanese face I've seen from a Western character customizer yet. They still haven't mastered light beards/stubble. Skin looks amazing.

I just can't believe how radically different this game looks from the last two. I mean I expected there to be changes, as much as DA2 was different from DAO, but it honestly looks like an entirely different franchise. Probably a good thing mind you .

I think that's funny, I was watching some footage and was thinking how familiar it felt to both the other games. It's certainly more colorful.Darth Snuggles wrote:Ha! We shall see.isgrelindisguise wrote: Archery actually looks interesting.

They're really trying to sell me on complex enemy and companion AI which I feel is almost certainly going to lead to disappointment.
Dragon Age Origins is currently free on Origin.

I finished DA2 because femHawke got it going on. In the butt region. I guess I should finish DAO.
Did you guys know Flemeth can turn into a dagron?

Who'd salohawke romance, and who did you side with? I was a little sad that it's very hard to sympathize with the Templars because I really wanted the choice to be more difficult. I've always been more of a Templar guy...
Have any of you tried Keep yet? I finally got an invite to the closed beta, and should be able to start on Tuesday.

Re: Dargon Age 3
Open beta starts soon doesn't it? I haven't tried it but I saw some vids I think. Looks neat.
Cozy Hawke scissored Isabela, then Merrill (literally one after the other), but the game decided I was romancing Merrill (was going to be my choice anyway). I don't know how it did, I guess I just had a higher friend score with her. There wasn't a CHOOSE YOUR LOVER moment that I recall. I would've boinked Varric too, but dorfracism cockblocked me.
Cozy was a mage, so naturally she sided with the mages, and felt pretty justified when Meredith used the demon idol/sword/thingy to go all red and evil. But also the First Enchanter went full retard and used Blood Magic to become a abomination. Basically everyone was a shitstick in that finale. Especially Anders.
Favourite moment of the finale was Fenris siding with Meredith, then he accompanies her to the final showdown moment.
Cozy: Fenris, be on my side. Pls
Fenris: K
10/10
I was sad that I couldn't settle things with the Arishok peacefully. He seemed nice. The Qun is garbage tho. I save this Qunari mage and the bastard goes and burns himself alive. Like dude, you coulda been my Bronari. Fuck the Qun

The big imbalance is that while the evil mages are presented as being at odds with the ideals of the Circle and the majority of it's members, the evil Templars are almost always presented as outstanding members of the Order. First Enchanter Arseino's blood magic meltdown is understandable if you side against him, because you are reaching super sayian power level by that point in the game, but I agree with you that pulling it when you join him IS going full retard.
I found both malePC-femaleNPC romances pretty poor when you consider the awesome-sauce that was Tali-Miranda-Jack-Liara options in ME2. ME is just all around the better franchise, first game excluded.
I liked Fenris a lot. He was the obvious choice for my femhawke, and he didn't disappoint.
You can find a peaceful solution with the Arishok, but it's not easy. I, like you, wanted to love the Qun. I found the early interactions with the Arishok really cool, especially the Fenris stuff, and what I learned from Tallis. But again, Bioware seems determined to portray it as an irredeemably bad thing, just like the Templars.

Really??JensenBakura wrote: big imbalance is that while the evil mages are presented as being at odds with the ideals of the Circle and the majority of it's members, the evil Templars are almost always presented as outstanding members of the Order.
I always felt that the number of good Templars vs evil Templars was pretty balanced and clear cut. Those good Templars being exemplars of what the Order is about, with the bad ones being very much just as power-crazy as the bad mages. More to the point, I think there are actually more examples of good Templars vs good mages. In almost every situation where you encounter mages in DA2 they inevitably turn to blood magic. Even people you save and try to be a good example to, ultimately turn out to be murderous assholes. It honestly felt like I was the only mage in Kirkwall that didn't practice blood magic. Anders doesn't count because he's already some sort of abomination.
Further, the big reveal at the end that the whole reason the Templar Order in Kirkwall was spiralling out of control was that Meredith was in fact batshit crazy, lends even more sympathy to the Templars that tried so hard to do the right thing by mages throughout the game (two of which die at the hands of mages for their efforts). It's almost like this massive cop out of, see the Templars aren't that bad, it's just that Meredith was bad, allowing sadists like Sir Alrik to flourish under her leadership.
Whereas Orsino for no good reason turns into an abomination. Supporting the general belief (that Fenris is all too happy to remind you of every 5 seconds), that regardless of the odds and no matter how much support they get, Mages always turn to blood magic. Let's not forget to mention the insinuation that Orsino was potentially in contact with the mage that murders Mama Hawke. I think DA2 is very heavy handed when it comes to trying to turn the player against mages, much more so than against Templars.
The game however essentially forces you into a situation where you have to oppose the Templars, because you can't condone Meredith's extreme reaction of murdering all mages because of Anders. But ultimately you end up with the proper resolution, in that Cullen and the other Templars see reason and side with you against Meredith. The tragedy being that it's all just way too late and too many people have suffered by that point.

Re: Dargon Age 3
I think this is the core of the choice. It's not really Templars versus Mages, or even pro-Circle or anti-Circle (the institution, not the people).Darth Snuggles wrote: The game however essentially forces you into a situation where you have to oppose the Templars, because you can't condone Meredith's extreme reaction of murdering all mages because of Anders. All the build-up, all the terrible things you see blood mages do is intentional. Anders and Meredith being completely batshit is intentional. It's supposed to give the choice weight. You're supposed to feel the despair. Every act builds to it and Hawke's origin is all about it (father is an apostate, Bethany is either dead or in the Circle).
But ultimately the choice is is about whether you condone the actions people like Meredith and Anders want to take. IMO the ultimate "pro-Templar" or "pro-Mage" choice is the same choice because you're supposed to look past that Meredith is a Templar and Anders is a mage. That's not their ultimate defining quality. Their defining quality is that they are insane and their methods are far too extreme.
I'm really interested in how this plays out in Inquisition.

Re: Dargon Age 3
I think it's all rather just such a shock. That despite all your efforts and working all those years to become Champion etc etc and either fight for Mages rights or support the existence of the Circle/Templars, in the end none of it matters. It doesn't matter how great a hero you are, or how powerful you've become, everything is going to fall apart regardless. In the same way that you're essentially powerless in stopping the conflict with the Qunari. You watched all these things brew for years and there simply is no good resolution. I suppose the futility of it all is just so depressing.badfo wrote:I think this is the core of the choice. Re: Dargon Age 3
Dragon Age Keep is serviceable, if not elegant. Also, it taught me two things I never knew about Dragon Age Origins:
1) The game differentiates between male warden and Morrigan having no baby, a human baby, or a god baby. I knew about the first and third, not the second.
2) A male dwarf warden can father a child with one of the dwarf hussies from the noble origin.

I'm not going to link the video because then I would have to go find it again but they streamed some of Skyhold today and it was a cool little place. No word on if you convert the dungeon to an Ithorian sex club however.
