I expect they're breaking EU canon; the writer that we know was writing about the children of the original series got fired and JJ Abrams rewrote the script with the ESB guy. So maybe it's still about their children, maybe it's about a bunch of tourists who get trapped on Ithor after their starliner from Naboo gets lost on it's way to Coruscant and discover that Ithor is actually the most interesting place in the galaxy.
