Anyone who gives QT a 1/10 has probably never even been there because if they had they'd know it's easily 9/10

YESSSSSS this is so much better. Director (and writer!) of Brick (good), Looper (good), some Breaking Bad episodes (good).

So I'm getting a little worried about all this flashback talk...I only just found out that (allegedly) pre-redemption Vader is in this movie, and I'm starting to think JJ may be making the same mistakes as SWTOR, which couldn't seem to stop recycling the OT instead of paying subtle tribute to it. And to be fair JJ does not have a good track record with this, as we all saw in Into Darkness.

All I really wanted from the original characters was to pass the torch on to the new cast, not choke the movie purple with flashbacks. I get it - the actors are old now, who cares? Just accept the fact you are 30 years after Endor and move on. You know, like how in ANH the entire decade-long clone wars was summed up in like 3 lines, and yet still had weight. Can you imagine ANH clogged up with prequel flashbacks?

You know who did a great "back in the saddle" scene that blew your mind and got you pumped in less than 3 minutes?

I'm still cautiously optimistic, but the dread quotient is rising.

JJ! We saw Ep 1-6. We remember the story. Just move on...show us something familiar, but NEW...

Hahah, I got a new laptop last week and this was actually one of the first things I thought of.

I'm still cautiously optimistic re the new films. What's amazing to me - despite the huge amounts of disappointment this franchise has consistently delivered since the Prequels - is that I have any optimism left at all.

Am I reading that article correctly though? In that Johnson will write and direct EpVIII, but Abrams is still writing and directing EpVII?

My only real worry is getting the writer of Godzilla in for Boba Fett... Let's hope they also cast Ken Watanabe, so we can have a convenient character that delivers all the exposition, with a terrible accent so that we're still left utterly clueless.

I think it will haunt us all to our graves.

Guess the OT was just that good...

That's correct, but JJ is not the sole writer.

Ewan McGregor has spent pretty much the last decade talking shit about his Star Wars films. It would be nice for him to do one he was proud of!

At least it didn't ruin his life like Jake Lloyd. I'd get behind an Obi-wan spin-off movie set back before ANH, I'm just not sure what the plot would be. I'm not sure how riveting a movie about a lonely aging monk living on the fringe of a rural desert community watching a boy grow up would be.

I guess it could work as a small-scale western in the spirit of Shane.

I'm pretty sure he left Tat a couple times in the EU. I don't think developing a self contained story set in the interim would be too difficult.

Jake Lloyd is a prime example of how not to deal with something you're embarrassed about. It could be worse, Jakey, you could be Hayden Christensen.

Except Hayden still has a career. Not a great career, but a steady one.
